Viti Levu Accommodation

Once the cooler months draw in, many Australians begin to dream of Fiji holidays and start planning their winter getaway to the welcoming sunshine and wonderful hospitality that this South Pacific gem is famous for. The only real decision that needs to be made is where, exactly, in Fiji you wish to stay.

If you fancy enjoying the delights of the main island of Viti Levu, there are a number of tourist areas to check out and a wide range of accommodation, from luxury resorts through to cheap and cheerful backpackers' hostels. One of the main advantages of booking a hotel on Viti Levu is the comparative ease of getting to your accommodation as there are good hotels near Nadi airport itself whilst resorts further afield run transfers from the airport to their door whenever a plane lands.

Nadi

Nadi has the feel of a big town, rather than a city, and although it's a lively place to stay for a few days, with its vibrant market, shops and cafes, most visitors spend only a night or 2 before moving on to enjoy the bulk of their Fiji holiday at one of the island's many excellent resorts. That said, if you are looking for resort style accommodation within striking distance of Nadi Airport, have a look at the Raffles Gateway Hotel, Mercure Nadi, Novotel Nadi and Smugglers Cove Beach Resort and Hotel, amongst others.

Denarau

Denarau Island is a man-made island a mere 20 mins from Nadi Airport and it is a popular destination for Fiji holiday packages, with major hotel chains such as the Sheraton (Sheraton Fiji Resort and Sheraton Denarau Villas), Westin (Westin Denarau Resort and Spa), Sofitel (Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa), Hilton (Fiji Beach Resort and Spa Managed by Hilton) and Radisson (Radisson Fiji) all represented, as well as smaller, more intimate hotels like The Terraces.

Apart from its superb resorts and convenience to Nadi Airport, Denarau boasts a truly outstanding golf course – making it a popular destination for golfing holidays to Fiji – and a beautiful marina, which is the ideal place to book a cruise of the neighbouring beaches and islands.

Coral Coast

Hugging the South West of Viti Levu, the Coral Coast is so named for the coral reef that lies just off its shores. This has long been a favourite location for Fiji family holidays with accommodation running from Sonaisali Island Resort at is northern end to the Shangri-La Fijian Resort and Outrigger on the Lagoon to the south. If you are in the market for an all-inclusive package holiday, both the Warwick Fiji Resort and Spa and the newly renovated Naviti Resort often run value for money package deals. Other notable Fiji resorts on this stretch of beach include the Intercontinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa, the Bedarra Beach Inn and, if you're looking for a stunning location for a romantic Fiji holiday, try the Natadola Beach Resort.

North Coast

If you're interested in a diving holiday, then you should look for accommodation on the North Coast of Viti Levu. This is the quiet side of Fiji tourism, with far fewer overseas visitors and none of the huge resort complexes that you find on other parts of the island. The Wananavu Beach Resort, Fiji Orchid and Rakiraki Hotel are all worth a stay, whilst the Tanoa Waterfront Hotel has a fabulous Sunset Bar, which is arguably the best location in Fiji to watch the sun go down. The other big attraction of this part of Fiji is that it is just a short boat ride from here to the lovely Mamanuca Islands – but more on them later.

Suva

The Fijian capital offers a very different holiday experience from the beach resorts of the Coral Coast and outlying islands and the laidback charm of Nadi. If you're thinking of spending a few days in Suva, take time to investigate the market and the fascinating Fiji Museum. Accommodation-wise, the Holiday Inn is a good option on Suva Harbour, whilst the Tanoa Plaza is bang in the centre of the city, making it a great base from which to sight see.
